Rear
Admiral Steven E. Day assumed his duties as Deputy Commander for Mobilization
and Reserve Affairs, Coast Guard Atlantic Area in June 2008. The Area of
Operations for this command ranges from the Rocky Mountains to the Arabian Gulf.
He is responsible for ensuring over 4,400 Atlantic Area Reservist remain trained
and ready to mobilize to support any of the three Coast Guard Reserve Missions.
RADM Day enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1967. After
recruit training, he attended Damage Controlman School at Governors Island NY.
As a Damage Controlman, RADM Day held assignments at TRASUPCEN Alameda CA, USCGC
Tanager, Reserve Unit Duluth MN, and Reserve Unit Green Bay WI, where he was
promoted to DC1 in 1977.
RADM Day received his commission in 1979 at the rank of
Ensign. Assignments as an officer have included; Reserve Green Bay, Commanding
Officer oJordan in 1985 and 1987, Operations Officer of PSU 303 Milwaukee WI,
where he deployed to the Port of Damman Saudi Arabia in support of OPERATION
DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM from September 1990 to April 1991. Upon release from
active duty in 1991, RADM Day’s assignments included: CO RU Green Bay, CO PSU
303 Milwaukee, USTRANSCOM. CO PSU 309 where his unit conducted deployments to
Pohang, Korea, Dukaylah, Egypt, OPSAIL 2000, New York City and Manama, Bahrain.
Beginning in 2001, RADM Day was then assigned to USTRANSCOM, with a follow on
tour as the CO, CG Element, JFCOM Norfolk and CO, JTRU JFCOM, Norfolk, VA.
In March of 2003, RADM Day was again recalled to active duty
in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, assigned to the Pentagon, National
Military Command Center and Coast Guard Headquarters, Defense Operations. Upon
release from active duty, he was assigned as the Senior Reserve Officer, Deputy
Chief of Staff CGD5 and then PACAREA as the Reserve Chief of Staff/Senior
Reserve Officer. RADM Day was recalled for OPERATION UNIFIED RESPONSE in January
2010, and again for DEEPWATER HORIZON response in April/May and June/July of
2010.
RADM Day’s personal awards include a Defense Meritorious
Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Joint Defense
Commendation Medals, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, Navy Commendation
Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal and a Joint Defense Achievement Medal and
numerous other personal and unit decorations.
RADM Day holds an Associates of Arts from Gogebic Community College, a
Bachelors degree from Northern Michigan University and a Masters degree from the
University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
